Electrical Panel Upgrades

The electrical panel is the heart of the electrical system. In our many years of experience we find that panels are the most abused piece of the electrical system and are worth looking at to see if it needs to be repaired or replaced. Some panels are undersized for the needs of the home and can cause flickering lights or overheated wiring. If you have a burned outlet it can be a sign of a poor panel install or an older panel that needs to be replaced. The following panel brands are also known to cause fires in homes and should be replaced immediately:

• Zinsco 
• GTE Sylvania 
• Federal Pacific
• Challenger

These panel brands all have well known faults with either their breakers or bus bars where the breakers connect, which causes overheating and melting of equipment, which leads to house fires. 

Rusted or poorly positioned panels should also be considered when it comes to replacing them. Panels cannot be located in closets or bathrooms, or inside of cabinets.
