Electrical Questions Homeowners Ask Most

How long does a panel change take?
Most standard 100A-to-200A panel upgrades take 4 to 8 hours of on-site work. Your power will be off for most of that time, but we coordinate ahead so you know exactly when. Larger jobs like meter base relocations or full service entrance upgrades can take a full day. Smart panels (like the Span panel) typically take a day and a half because of the additional wiring and configuration. We give you a clear timeline before we start so there are no surprises.
Do you charge for estimates?
No. On-site estimates for projects like panel upgrades, rewires, EV chargers, and backup power are completely free. We come to your home, look at the work, and give you a clear written quote on the spot. No obligation, no pressure. If you'd like to move forward, great. If not, you walk away with a clear understanding of what the project would involve.
How much does a diagnostic visit cost?
Our diagnostic rate is $99 for the first 30 minutes, then $199 per hour after that. This applies when we're called out to troubleshoot a specific issue (like a tripping breaker, partial power loss, or a specific outlet not working) where we need to investigate before we can give you a quote. If the diagnostic leads to repair work we complete on the same visit, the diagnostic fee is rolled into the total.
Do I need to upgrade my electrical panel before installing an EV charger?
Often, yes, especially if your home has a 100A panel. A Level 2 EV charger pulls 40-60 amps on a dedicated circuit, which can push older panels past their safe capacity. We do a free load calculation before quoting any EV charger to tell you exactly where you stand.
Why does aluminum wiring need to be replaced?
Aluminum wiring expands and contracts at a different rate than copper, which causes connections to loosen over time. Loose connections cause arcing, which causes fires. Many insurance carriers now require aluminum wiring to be remediated before they'll renew a policy. We handle both full copper rewires and code-compliant retrofit fixes (COPALUM, AlumiConn).
How fast can you respond to an electrical emergency?

Are you licensed to work throughout King and Snohomish County?
Yes. Renew Electric is fully licensed (RENEWEL774J7), bonded, and insured for all electrical work in Washington State. We're permitted and inspected on every job that requires it, and our work meets or exceeds Washington code on every project.
